Press release from Strømøy Racing 03.08.2026
Sensational podium by Strømøy in Kyrgyzstan

Marit Strømøy climbed from 14. starting track for bronze in the final of the WC round in Formula 1 i Kyrgyzstan. She thus became the first driver in the WC circus to capture a podium place with a new and more environmentally friendly engine, engine manufacturer Mercury Racing's new venture. – Driving wise my best race ever. Proving to everyone that our new venture has the right of life was one of the greatest moments in my eventually very long racing career, says Marit Strømøy from Kyrgyzstan.

For three years, Strømøy Racing has been developing boats and engines. The new engine is considerably heavier than its competitors. Ahead of this year's season, a new boat has been built at the boat factory in Italy and Marit has had to change his driving style to adapt to the new equipment package. It has been three years of trial and error and ups and downs. – We have faced a lot of criticism from the environment and many have claimed that we could never get on the podium again. There have been times when even I have doubted, but I am incredibly satisfied to finally be able to show a top position, she says.

This week's WC round in Kyrgyzstan was organized at 1600 meters high in the UNESCO area of Issyk-Kul. No less than six presidents, among others the President of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were present during the event which is estimated to have had 30 000 spectators.
Already during training, Strømøy clocked in the top three times, but during the qualification she was unable to do so. With all the boats chasing the perfect flying round, the course was chaotic and it ended with 15. best time and a disappointed Strømøy could watch the rest of the qualification from the sidelines. The following day the times were back at the top and in the warm-up hours before the race she set the fastest lap time of the week, 0,2 one second better than the reigning world champion.
Marit Strømøy got off to a fantastic start and during the first round she moved up to seventh place. 14 laps into the race one of the competitors went around and the race had a flying restart. Here she advanced a further three places. After the war in 41 rounds drove Strømøy into fourth place, only two seconds behind Alec Weckstrøm from Arab Victory team. Already 15 minutes after the finish, rumors buzzed in the pit about a potential disqualification of Weckstrøm, who had moved up a place in the restart, before the start. While the discussions were going on, he stood on the podium in front of a sea of people and received the bronze. The judges he dished on video evidence and GPS signals. Victory Team protested, but to no avail. It was a blunt presentation of the third place in depot, but Marit Strømøy got her bronze place. -A bit boring not being able to stand on the podium and enjoy it, but anyway a wonderful experience, she says.
The race was won by reigning World Champion Shaun Torrente of Victory Team with Erik Stark of Team Abu Dhabi in second place. The next race is in Shanghai at the beginning of October.

Strong driving by Strømøy in Formula 1 race number 100.
Marit Strømøy is moving ever closer to the podium with her new project with a new and more environmentally friendly Formula 1 motor. In its Formula 1 race number 100, she drove to a strong 4th place after tight fighters and tough driving. – This was one of my best races ever, says Marit.
The race weekend in Sardinia has been characterized by both ups and downs. Engine and boat are under constant development and the team is constantly working to improve speed and acceleration. On Saturday's qualifying, the weather changed drastically and Marit struggled with her balance. This resulted in a somewhat disappointing 12th place and a difficult starting point for Sunday's race.
In the last practice before the final, the team arrived at a good set-up with weight, gearing and propeller. For the first time, Marit recorded top lap times 3 and showed promising paces and great confidence.
The final was over 40 laps on a very narrow track with lots of waves. The organizer considered that the normal stationary start was too risky and went for a rolling start, which did not favor those who were at the back of the field. Already on the first lap, a boat went around and a new rolling start procedure was initiated. From there it was 40 rounds with a lot of tactical driving and tight fighters. Little by little, Marit advanced in the field. After 15 rounds she was up to 5th place with reigning world champion Jonas Andersson notches in full. The last 25 the rounds it was a battle to keep him behind, but at the same time advance in the field. Marit finished in 4th place, when 3 seconds behind the podium. – This almost tastes like a victory. We have worked so much on the new project and faced so much resistance among competing teams. Right up until the start, people came up to me and thought we were completely on the right track for choosing to bet on the new engine. The same people were behind and chasing through 40 rounds and it gave me fantastic motivation. After the race it was quite quiet in the depot, says Marit Strømøy.
The race in Sardinia was the third round in this year's WC series. Now Marit is in 6th place in the summary and team colleague Bartek Marszalek is in 5th place. Overall in the team WC, Strømøy Racing is in 3rd place behind Arab Team Sharjah and Team China. The next WC round is in China. The team will continue to develop the boat and engine with Mercury Racing until the container ships in mid-July.

Marit Strømøy and her team have invested heavily in Formel 1 with a new boat and a new 4-stroke engine with a strong environmental focus. After a long time of planning, construction and testing, the stage was set for the WC round in Olbia, Sardinia. There was a lot of excitement about how the engine in particular would behave in competition with the well-known 2-stroke engine. – This goes beyond all expectations, says a satisfied Marit Strømøy.
Already in the first practice, the team showed potential and posted lap times in the middle of the results list. All the teams in Formula 1 For the past three years, the series has had the opportunity to switch to a new engine, but has refused. Increased weight, economy and the fear of the unknown have been the main reasons, and most had little faith that this would work. As the lap times got better and better, it was to the great astonishment of the competitors. The team has planned this carefully and tested and studied and constructed a boat which, in theory, should match the engine's characteristics. – We have bet everything, met with much opposition and shocked everyone. I love to refute people who are narrow minded, says Marit Strømøy.
The track in Olbia is the series' shortest and theoretically the track there 4 stroke engine would have great difficulty keeping up. Marit nevertheless qualified directly for the final through qualification and a sprint race. In the main race itself, there was a queue from start to finish and since the course was so narrow, the starting field was divided into two starts. Marit who had qualified in the 11th track, was in the last group to start 5 seconds after. From there there was little opportunity to drive up. During that 40 completes the long WC race, put Marit 5. best lap time and this gave a good indication of what is to come. – We had expected to spend at least a year to get to where we are now and are very happy so far, says team manager Andrea Colombo.
The next WC round is in December in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Here, the track and the long sides are almost twice as long. -I hardly dare to say it out loud, but I think we have a chance on the podium, concludes Marit Strømøy.
